Oktibbeha County families attended the Kindergarten Readiness Event “Kindergarten, Here We Come!” on Saturday, May 5, 2012 9:30-11:30 at the Starkville Sportsplex.
The following stations were available for families to visit and gain information:
- Understanding the School Attendance Policy in MS
- How to Develop Language and Vocabulary While Reading With Your Child
- Understanding the Common Core for Kindergarten
- School Bus Safety Rules
- Preparing your child for the school rules
- Uniform Policies for Kindergarten Sites
- A Typical Day at kindergarten
- Immunization Information for Children
- Vision and Hearing Screenings
- First Steps and Child Find information
- How to Develop Vital Fine Motor Skills for Children
- Services Available at the Oktibbeha County Families First Resource Center
- Healthy Snacks to send with your child to school-MS Extension Service
- Future Events planned by the Oktibbeha County Excel By 5 Coalition
The following school sites were present to provide information to the families about their schools:
West Oktibbeha County Elementary School, East Oktibbeha County Elementary School, and Sudduth Elementary School.
All families left the event with a bag full of information from the stations and a calendar of activities to do for the months of May-July with their child before beginning kindergarten in August.
