The City of Biloxi recognized individuals, organizations and businesses that contribute their time and energy in helping others and making Biloxi a wonderful place to live on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at the 30th Annual Volunteer Recognition Ceremony.
Biloxi Excel By 5 was awarded the 2013 City of Biloxi Volunteer Award in the Non-Profit Organization category. The organization was recognized for the outstanding leadership, service and commitment to the Biloxi community. The award was presented by Mayor A.J. Holloway and Brig Gen Bradley D. Spacy, Commander, 81st Training Wing, Keesler Air Force Base.
As stated by Linda Perkes, Coalition Chairperson, “Serving our youngest citizens and their families is a joy, and we do it because we want to make a difference for them and for the community. We are honored and grateful that the City of Biloxi recognized Biloxi Excel By 5 as the Outstanding Non-Profit Organization this year. It reinforces our resolve to strengthen partnerships, identify resources and meet the needs of our families and caregivers.”
Bekki Harris and 2 year old son, Quinn, have been visiting the Biloxi Family Resource Center since he was 5 months old. Bekki states, “Quinn looks forward to going every week. I have enjoyed watching his skills and interests grow. The variety of toys and themed rooms allows him to explore his creativity, imagination and motor skills in a safe environment with materials that we may not always have at home.” She goes on to say, “Biloxi’s Excel By 5 is second to none. What a great, caring, friendly hardworking group of people. The women we see weekly have become aunts and grandmothers to my son Quinn.”
