Children packed the parking lot of the Stone County Library last Wednesday to take part in a Safety Fair.
Hosted by Stone County Excel by 5 in conjunction with the library, the fair dovetailed with the library’s summer reading program, “Heroes: Every Hero Has a Story.”
Partners included the Mississippi Tobacco Free Coalition, Mississippi Power, Mississippi State University Early Learning Network, Children’s Pediatric Clinic, Stone County Sheriff Department, USDA Soil and Water Conservation District and the Wiggins Fire Department.
“The children received many goodies form our community partners,” said Judy Bechtel. “They also ended the morning with a lunch provided by the Stone County School District Summer Feeding program.”
Stone County is the 16th Excel by 5 certified early childhood community.
“A team of educators, community leaders and parents have come together to help make Stone County a more nurturing, safer environment for our children,” Bechtel said. “We will continue together on our journey to ensure that our children are happy, healthy and ready to learn.
