designation as an Excel By 5 Certified Early Childhood Community.
Excel By 5 is an initiative focused on communities working to prepare children for kindergarten and first grade.

North Madison County Hosts 4th Annual Back to School Event

The North Madison County Excel By 5 Coalition hosted the 4th annual Health Fair & Back to School event on Saturday, August 1, 2015, at St. Paul AME Zion Church in Canton, Miss.   The successful event allowed families from Canton and North Madison County to receive information on the importance of early childhood education and reading to their young children prior to entering kindergarten, healthy eating and hygiene habits, planning for their children’s financial future and fun face painting and games.


United Contributes $10K to North Madison County Excel By 5

The United Way of the Capital Area Board of Trustees has approved an investment in the amount of $10,000, effective July 15, 2014,for the North Madison County Excel By 5!!!!  This grant will provide needed funding for the continuation of our efforts to raise awareness for early childhood education of children 0-5 years of age in order that they may be prepared for kindergarten and beyond.  Thanks for your participation and support of this endeavor.

North Madison County Excel By 5 Awarded Grant

The Community Foundation of Greater Jackson announced that a grant totaling $1,108.62 was awarded to United Way of the Capitol Area , Inc. for North Madison County Excel By 5 from the ChemFirst/ First Mississippi Corporation Charitable Endowment Fund of the Community Foundation of Greater Jackson.


North Madison Resource & Referral Center


The North Madison County Excel By 5 Coalition partnered with the Madison County Business League, MCEDA, United Way of the Capital Area and the Canton Chamber Main Street Association to host a ribbon cutting for the Central MS Child Care Resource & Referral Center on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at the historic old Madison County Courthouse in Canton, MS.  Special guest was Mississippi’s First Lady Deborah Bryant. A group of 100 members, elected and appointed officials and guests attended the event.

The Mississippi State University Extension Service Central Mississippi Child Care Resource & Referral Center, located in the historic old Madison County Courthouse in Canton, offers parents, early care and education providers, students, and community members the opportunity to check out educational books and materials free of charge.  They also maintain a database of information about licensed child care centers and family child care providers to help families locate child care based on each family’s needs and interests.  For more information and hours of operation, please call 601-859-9730 or www. madisoncountybusinessleague.com/excel-by-5


New center open for education

First Lady Deborah Bryant was one of 100 people gathered in front of the historic courthouse in downtown Canton for a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Central Mississippi Child Care Resource & Referral Center.  The Madison County Business League, Madison County Economic Development Authority, Canton Chamber Main Street Association, United Way of the Capitol Area and Excel By 5 partnered together for the unveiling.  The Center will be important resource for Pre-K teaching materials, supplies, training, etc. to a community which is in dire need of academic improvement.


North Madison County School Readiness Event 2013

The North Madison County Excel By 5 Coalition in partnership with Canton
Parks & Recreation hosted a Back to School Readiness event on Saturday,
August 3, 2013, at the Canton Community Center.  Parents with children 0 -5
years of age received backpacks and supplies after completion of 12 school
readiness stations. Excel By 5 is a state wide innovative community
certification process exclusive to Mississippi.  Excel By 5 focuses on young
children and emphasizes the important roles parents and early childhood
educators play in the lives of children during their most formative years -
birth to age five.

CenterPoint Donates Printer to North Madison Excel By 5 Coalition

 July 15, 2013, CenterPoint Energy, through their HP Purchase Edge program, donated a printer for the new North Madison County Excel By 5 resource center located in the historic old courthouse in Canton.
